It is only natural to have lots of questions when considering entrusting your beloved pet with a stranger for the first time. To help you, below is a list of questions often asked:-

What is involved in transporting pets to/from the Isle of Man?

Transporting pets by sea and road requires careful planning and preparation starting from the moment we are employed. We have to take into account the time of year, the distance and costs and more importantly the well being of your pet for transportation. For all journeys, we make sure the vehicle is fully serviced and a safety check has been performed every 6 months, especially for the European trips. We make sure all the necessary supplies such as food, water, waste bags, a harness, a pet crate if needed, a pet first aid kit including a pet first aid book, calming spray and a full emergency breakdown kit are all in place.

When leaving the Isle of Man, with or without a pet, we always depart the day before purely for our peace of mind just in case of any weather issues or Steam Packet cancellations. We always monitor the weather at least 5 days before departure should travel need to be brought forward.

When picking up in the UK to relocate back to the Isle of Man, we stay in a hotel near the airport's Animal Reception Centre, kennels or the collection address to allow plenty of time for the drive back to the ports of Heysham or Liverpool.  We also collate a list of emergency contact information for the nearest vets/animal hospitals along the route. And for added peace of mind if the weather is that bad and we can not travel to the Isle of Man we have available accommodation in Buxton and Liverpool when ever we need it.

I also take into consideration any additional needs of the pet such as medication or anxiety and make ensure I have any necessary documentation such as health certificates, proof of vaccinations, etc. I also need to check that the pet's microchip details are correct at the time of pick up then finally, inform the owner that pick up or drop off has been completed.

Do you have insurance for dog walking, pet sitting and pet transportation?

Yes, I do. I have been fully insured now for 17 years and I am covered for dog walking and all activities involved, pet sitting and pet transportation.  I have a DEFA Type 1 Transport Licence and travel with an additional driver when required who also holds the relevant Transport Licence. Paws for Doors Isle of Man are fully covered for business insurance, public liability insurance and vehicle insurance for both vehicles.

My pet needs to go to the UK for a vet appointment/I am picking up a new pet - can I travel with you?

Of course you can. I can accommodate one person to travel with us for vet appointments as we understand the well being of your pet comes first. And when it comes to bringing that new member of your family home, there is nothing quite like the joy of collecting a puppy directly from the breeder or your adopted dog/cat from the shelter and travelling home with them, starting the bonding process right away.  Travel will be subject to your agreeing to the T&Cs covering the carriage of the non employee travel policy.
