Animal first aid knowledge and skills are essential to ensure that injured or sick animals receive the appropriate care until they can receive medical attention from a vet. It involves understanding how to recognise and manage common emergencies such as choking, bleeding, poisoning and fractures. Some basic steps in animal first aid include staying calm, assessing the animal's condition, providing immediate support such as CPR if needed and transporting the animal to the vet as soon as possible. That is why I am pet first aid trained and when transporting your family pet we always carry a fully stocked animal first aid kit, a first aid book and have the emergency contact information for vets or animal hospitals en route to deal with any issues should they arise.
